EASC is Your International Commodities Authenticator
When freight forwarders are handling overseas shipments, there are some foreign countries or importers that require a Certificate of Origin for certain commodities. The purpose of the certificate is to authenticate the merchandise’s country of origin. Customs offices use this document to determine whether or not a preferential duty rate applies on the products being imported or, in some cases, whether the goods may be legally imported at all.
In most countries, Chambers of Commerce are the key agents in the delivery of Certificates of Origin. In some countries, such as the United States, this privilege may also be extended to other bodies such as Economic Alliance Snohomish County. The form requires the authorized signature of the local Chamber of Commerce Secretary or their designee and the seal of that organization. The descriptions and amounts on the Certificate of Origin must be consistent with those entered on the invoice.
