Summary:

The Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) Coordinator is crucial in fortifying and diversifying Snohomish County's economy. This strategic role involves formulating and executing comprehensive business retention and expansion strategies and spearheading innovative business recruitment efforts. The coordinator is expected to proactively foster a resilient and sustainable regional business ecosystem, driving immediate and long-term economic benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

BUSINESS RETENTION AND EXPANSION:

  • Work with economic development professionals throughout Snohomish County to develop and maintain a database of significant employers at the city and county levels.
  • Direct a coordinated employer outreach process of in-person and virtual meetings to identify and summarize those issues with immediate and longer-term impact on employer operations. Establish metrics to measure success.
  • Advocate for solutions to the business climate and regional growth issues identified during employer outreach and from other sources. Research market information and regulatory environment to support proposal generation.
  • Work closely with EASC small business programs (APEX Accelerators and SBA Small Business Development Center) to support the needs of start-ups and small and disadvantaged business enterprises.

RECRUITMENT:

  • Serve as a point of contact and response for business recruitment projects. Manage the proposal process in response to Requests for Proposal/Information (RFP/I) from all sources.
  • Maintain a robust CRM and project management system to track existing and potential investment opportunity relationships.
  • Provide information on the EASC website that addresses a broad range of topics of interest to site selectors and corporate real estate executives performing early-stage location studies.
  • Join and engage with industry associations aligned with target industries to remain current on industry trends and for networking/lead generation purposes.
  • Participate in trade shows independently and jointly with partner organizations to generate leads.
  • Network with regional international organizations to develop Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) opportunities.
  • Attend regional events on behalf of EASC to elevate the organization’s visibility and forge partnerships to increase investment in Snohomish County.

OTHER:

  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with private and public, local and national strategic partners to augment the efficacy of EASC’s workplan.
  • Secure and maintain board seats in organizations that are key to EASC program efforts.
  • Perform administrative functions that support EASC's overall operations.
  • Promote middle and high school STEM and Career Connected Learning opportunities to businesses.

Qualifications

  • Passionate about business and economic development with an ability to unite diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, decisiveness, and judgment skills, particularly under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Goal-oriented, with a focus on setting and achieving realistic deadlines.
  • Capacity to make informed business and community decisions in EASC's best interest.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and CRM management, preferably Dynamics 365.

Education and Experience

Relevant experience may substitute for part of the educational requirement when competency in the role is demonstrated.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Business Development, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a similar position is required.
  • Experience leading or working with a membership-driven organization will be considered.

Environment

Normal business office conditions generally prevail. The noise level is usually low to moderate. Employees may work in a cubicle, enclosed office, or open area. The floor may be carpeted or bare.

Safety Responsibility

Duties shall include observing all organization health, safety, and environmental rules, ensuring that employees are provided with complete information on area-specific safety issues, identifying all unique hazards, and providing employees with the proper equipment to carry out their jobs safely.

Volunteer Internship Program

The Economic Alliance Snohomish County (EASC) internship program aims to provide qualified students with valuable work experience in a fast pace environment of economic development, policy advocacy, and small business development.

Interns will provide support for specific projects within EASC’s mission of advocating on behalf of business and community groups, business recruiting/expansion/retention efforts, and providing resources to help businesses connect and grow. Interns will gain skills in research and analysis, writing, marketing/communications, event planning, project management, industry-specific business development efforts and more.

A minimum commitment of 10 weeks is required. A schedule will be developed depending on the student’s other commitments, but not to exceed 20 hours per week. Internships are generally awarded for spring, summer or fall terms (though other arrangements may be made on a case-by-case basis).

Sample internship projects include:

  • Write and design marketing materials for specific industry clusters and EASC events
  • Research economic development trends and draft a report on how to create economic industry zones in Snohomish County
  • Conduct a poll on the business community and draft a report on how EASC can increase awareness of issues affecting businesses in Snohomish County
  • Provide research assistance on the development of a regional market assessment and strategic plan to attract foreign direct investment to Snohomish County
  • Provide general communications support, including writing content for the web and social media, conduct interviews/develop content for newsletters, etc.
  • Research and update economic impact data for specific target clusters
  • Research industry supply chains to create segment mapping opportunities within specific target clusters
  • Assist in managing EASC events and other projects

Qualifications

Applicants must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school program (applicants should hold at least college junior status; students currently in graduate school are preferred). International students studying in the U.S. are eligible. Students pursuing a degree in business, economics, communications, public policy, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Ability to use computers and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and handle multiple projects
  • Writing experience, especially on a newspaper or newsletter
  • Professional and courteous interpersonal skills
  • A professional working proficiency with English (ILR Level 3)
